POST CONSTRUCTION TREATMENT

Most homes treated for termites are treated in the post-construction phase. New homes as well as old homes all have conducive conditions for the entry of termites. I have seen homes less than six months old with termite infestations. Old homes tend to have a few more conditions develop as time passes. There are two basic options for a post-construction termite treatment. The first being the conventional liquid application method. This method uses a liquid termiticide, whether a repellent or non repellent product, that is injected into the soil at the base of the foundation, in the bath traps, and along expansion joints. Additional foaming may be used on the interior of a structure to treat pipe penetrations in the wall voids and under sinks when necessary. The second option is a bait stations system placed at equal intervals around the exterior of a structure. They are monitored usually monthly to begin with for any termite activity, once enough activity is seen a bait pack is placed in the station for the termites to eat and bring back to the colony. This method can be less costly up front but will incur cost over time due to the ongoing cost of monitoring and rebaiting. The liquid application will cost more up front but will only require an annual inspection to continue the terms of the warranty. Either way termites can be controlled successfully or sometimes a combination of both works best.
